The ABC of Google Alphabet

The ABC of Google Alphabet When it comes to Sergey Brin and Larry Page (the founders of Google), they are always up to something. And this time, to the utmost surprise of the entire dot com industry and internet world, they have decided to restructure their company Google and give it under the umbrella of newly found Alphabet Inc. And if you don’t already know about it, the URL for this new company is http://abc.xyz. Google new Structure Old VS New Structure The old structure meant that Google was just an IT company managing so many other organizations. The incorporation of Alphabet will make the entire business venture a conglomerate. One shining example of conglomerate is Berkshire Hathaway, a company that is owned by Warren Buffer, one of the most successful investors in the world. As Alphabet will become conglomerate, all newly overtaken companies will become its part. Each shareholder who owned one share of Google, will now own one share of Alphabet Inc, which will consist simultaneously of so many companies. This will help diversify and spread business risk across different IT segments, something that traditional conglomerates have been done for decades. pichai1 New and Old CEO The management structure is surely going to change at Google. Previous CEO of Google will be replaced by Sundar Pichai who hasn’t been in the limelight until recently. He will be overseeing all the core products which come directly under the tutelage of Google, namely Apps, Maps, Ads, Search, Android and YouTube. Pichai has been part of Google since 2004 when he started leading the product management and innovation initiatives at Google. He has also overseen development of apps like Google Chrome and Google Drive. Android which wasn’t part of Pichai’s domain under Google has recently been added by him to his assigned portfolio of products. Previously Andy Rubin oversaw Android. Sundar Pichai has taken over reins of the company from Larry Page, the previous CEO. Why They Chose Alphabet As Name? There are different theories that surfaced internet ever since Larry Page coined Alphabet as a company name. However, here is what Larry Page had to say about this name. "We liked the name Alphabet because it means a collection of letters that represent language, one of humanity's most important innovations, and is the core of how we index with Google search! We also like that it means alpha‑bet (Alpha is investment return above benchmark), which we strive for!" Page wants the company to be more than just offering couple of products. It wants Google to be independent and develop its own brands. This is something that every big organization eventually dreams of. Google now wants to become more than a search engine which develops apps, delivers search results and assists you in finding the information that you want. VS-1024x576 Who Owns The Domain Name Alphabet? It isn’t easy to buy something that is already owned by someone big like BMW. And interestingly enough, BMW is not interested in selling this domain. Besides the domain, the twitter handle of @alphabet is also not owned by Google. The Alphabet domain name of BMW has a vehicle fleet service which it describes to be very active. A recent Routers report claims that over hundred trademarks have been registered with the name Alphabet in the US alone. This many number of patents can surely land Google or if you want to call it Alphabet into litigations. However, legal battles are not something new for Google as it has fought many before with some of the biggest IT companies in the world within and outside US.
